Your wedding is one of the most beautiful and important days in your life. Something you definitely want to capture with great photographs - both for yourself and for future generations. However, a worst case scenario, could have you paying lot’s of money for a bunch of pictures you really are not satisfied with. This article will walk you through some of the most important aspects of wedding photography.
Choosing a photographer
Your first task is naturally to select a wedding photographer. Most expensive doesn’t always translate into “best”, so it can pay off doubly to check out several companies and photographers. Also, you should be aware of that some photographers only offer the traditional wedding photography style, or strictly a photojournalistic style. It is best to find a versatile photographer that can do both.
When visiting the photo company you should inquire who will actually be taking the pictures. Salespersons often pose as actual photographers and try to woo customers. If at all possible you should speak directly with the photographer and make sure companies deal openly. You should also ask them to show several complete weddings from each of the photographers they offer you, so you can choose. Make sure the one chosen is the one that will cover your wedding. Otherwise, it is better to find a photographer that personally shoots weddings. A two-person team is an even better package because two points of view of the wedding can be taken.
In any case, the photographer should be able to show more than one complete set of wedding photos. Couples should not accept someone who shows only selected prints of their best photographs from different weddings. A photographer who can exhibit three or four complete sets of good quality pictures, all from different weddings, will probably be a very good choice for your special occasion.
Do not be afraid to come across as “too picky”. Because asking intelligent questions will encourage photographers to deal openly with customers. Remember, it’s your special day, and you should make sure that the wedding photography is something that will help you and your loved ones relive those wonderful memories.
The big day - one big photo-op
Once a great photographer has been appointed to the task, most of your job is already done. However, there are a few things to keep in mind in order to make your wedding as good a photo opportunity as possible.
The first thing to do is to give the most opportunities for the photographer when scheduling activities during the wedding day. When planning the time of the wedding ceremony and of the reception, couples should incorporate the time that the photographer requires to capture all of the couple’s special moments. There should be a gap between the end of the ceremony and beginning of the reception, to allow for more photographs for the bride, groom and wedding entourage, especially if they are in two different locations. The photographers and subjects will have a more relaxed shoot and will enjoy all the parts of the wedding if the events are well spaced out.
Selecting a photographer that will provide unlimited coverage for the whole day is also a good way to ensure that none of the photography will be rushed.
The check list
As you see, the most important part with successful wedding photography lies in selecting the right photographer. So, to conclude this article, here is a short check list of things you should ask all potential photographers.
- What kinds of cameras does he use? Does he use medium format equipment and have a back up? Does have a “leaf” shutter or “focal plane”?
- What lenses does he use? Does he use only one, or will he change lenses? Make him show you photo effects that he is able to achieve with different lenses and choose the ones which you like to appear with your photographs.
- Will he provide photographs in both color and black and white, or would he charge extra for B/W? Dramatic effects can be made with black and white photographs, so ask if this is a premium.
- Are hand and digital coloring or digital color separation included in the package or would he charge extra for these? Better pictures are developed when the photograph colors are separated first, improved, and then printed.
- Is he willing to customize a package that is within your budget?

Thinking about having a wedding theme for your wedding? Well how about having a Valentine’s Day Wedding Theme? Only true romantics dare to theme their wedding around Valentine’s Day. If you aren’t that daring well you can skim and browse this article to see if any facet of these ideas appeal to the particular theme you are planning for in your wedding and so incorporating these small touches into your theme to create a truly memorable day.
Of course with all wedding themes the most important part is in organising the color palette you will use for your foundation to your own special Valentine’s Day Wedding Theme. If you look around to the various artifacts, toys and cards that are on sale on Valentine’s Day you will find many many shades of red and pink and the many textures and pastels in between. You may choose any combination that may appeal to you. You may also consider adding a bit of your own personality into the color choice. If you are wild and outgoing it would be nice to choose contrasting colors in addition to the normal pink and red to add a bit of excitement to the colour. If you are more of the conservative type well a nice free flow of conservative colors will work. From here, you will theme this critical base of foundational colours to your wedding theme: from your wedding attire, to decorations in the ceremony and reception as well as your place settings.
As you’re planning for your Valentine’s Day wedding theme progresses, perhaps the next step is to look at wedding attire. You may want to look at an old fashioned contemporary look to extend the theme that Valentine’s Day is a truly romantic day. You may want to have a look at weddings from days past, or weddings that are grand from earlier this century such as Jackie Kennedy’s wedding with JFK. Another option is to accent your wedding dress with the colors form your base palette. Perhaps have a shawl again, with the colors you have chosen. Then your roses will also follow this beautiful color scheme. Continuing your theme would have your bridesmaids wearing various shades of the colors you’ve picked designed into their dresses. Groomsmen will also follow this theme wearing the pink and reds from your palette in their boutonnières.
The location you choose for your wedding will also accentuate your Valentine’s Day wedding theme. Of course, don’t forget to book early as Valentine’s Day is a very popular day to get married. When choosing your venue you may want to look for a place where you can decorate your location with many candles to set the mood for an evening ceremony. Look for decoration potentials when shopping around for your ceremony and reception locations.
There are other small additions you may want in your wedding to celebrate your Valentine’s Day wedding theme. As an extension to the romantic Valentine’s Day theme - at the ceremony you may want to ask couples to stand during your wedding to reaffirm their love to each other. Music can also set the romantic scene for you with a string quartet or an Italian opera singer at either your reception or ceremony. Flowers would be roses and your menu may include aphrodisiacs such as oysters, almonds, strawberries dipped in chocolate…
As you can see the options and ideas are vast and you must make a distinction as to what you want for your Valentine’s Day wedding theme.
This article “Valentine’s Day Wedding Theme” can be found in our wedding venues category.

The Well Dressed Groom - Jewish Style
What will this year’s well dressed groom be wearing? The latest Giorgio Armani three piece suit? Or perhaps, a custom tailored tuxedo?
Undoubtedly, he might. But if it’s a traditional Jewish marriage ceremony, chances are, when he’s standing under the wedding canopy, he will be decked out in the same outer garment his ancestors have worn for centuries.
This is the “kittel”, a white linen ceremonial robe worn over his regular suit. A brief look at the usage and meaning of this historic garment will not only help us understand it’s ageless significance, but it will also give us deeper insight into the mystery and wonder of the Jewish wedding ceremony itself.
The kittel (Yiddish for gown) is worn at four critical occasions in the Jewish lifecycle. Each event marks a period of transition and transformation in the wearer’s life.
On Passover eve, we sit down at our dinner table to read the Haggadah. With passionate involvement we relive and retell the story of our exodus from Egyptian bondage.
On this night of remembrance and celebration the head of the family wears a kittel. We acknowledge our passage from darkness to light, from exile to redemption, from slavery to freedom. On this sacred occasion we become free men.
On Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year, a day when the Creator grants us forgiveness from all our sins, we also wear a kittel.
Yom Kippur is a day when we aspire to start a clean slate. We refrain from eating and drinking, and other physical pursuits, and devote ourselves to prayer, repentence, and spiritual stocktaking. We leave behind our former selves and ascend to the level of angels. It is a time of new beginnings.
The bride and groom, on their wedding day also fast. They recite prayers from the Yom Kippur service and commit to leading a lifestyle in harmony with traditional Jewish teachings and values.
Our sages teach us, that in a certain respect, our wedding day is even holier than Yom Kippur. On Yom Kippur one may acquire atonement only for himself. On his wedding day, however, the groom may receive forgiveness, not only for himself, but for those close to him as well.
On this holy day of their wedding, the bride and groom begin a new life. Spiritually as well as physically.
Finally, the kittel is worn at our burial. It thus serves as a gentle reminder, during the wedding, of life’s fleeting mortality and lends a touch of solemnity to an event, where unbridled joy, may otherwise know no bounds.
It’s important to note that the kittel is white, a sign of purity and happiness. In addition, it has no pockets. This is to remind the groom, that when we leave this world, we take nothing with us other than the good deeds we have accumulated throughout our lifetime.
In conclusion, I am reminded of the story of the young groom to be, who upon purchasing his kittel asked the elderly shopkeeper, if there was anything else he needed for his wedding.
“Yes”, replied the shopkeeper, “don’t forget patience, respect, and love. And above all always remember to be a ‘mentsh’”( a caring, considerate person ).
Certainly good advice for all grooms, young and old alike.

Boutonnieres are the ultimate finishing touch to a gentleman’s outfit and provide a sense of style.
Here are some tips on how to make sure that the guys in your wedding party look fantastic.
Types of Flower
Roses are the most popular flower for a boutonniere, but don’t feel that you have to follow tradition. Other flowers that work well include stephanotis, tulips and orchids. If you are on a budget, carnations are a good choice.
Choosing Your Boutonnieres
The colour of your boutonnieres can be chosen to either contrast or complement the colour of the groom’s outfit. For instance a black morning suit with a burgundy cravat could be complemented by a burgundy boutonniere made from a tulip, calla lily or rose.
Alternatively, you could arrange for boutonnieres to be made that mirror the flowers in the bride’s bouquet.
Who Should Have Boutonnieres?
It is common for the bridegroom, best man, ushers/groomsmen and fathers of the bride and bridegroom to all have boutonnieres. Some couples also like to make boutonnieres available to all who attend the wedding ceremony, but this will be dependant on your budget.
To mark him out as special, the bridegroom often has a slightly different boutonniere to the rest of the wedding party. It maybe a different colour, or the florist may put elaborate embellishments on it such as decorative beads, diamante, or additional blooms.
How to Wear Your Boutonnieres
The boutonniere is worn on the gentleman’s left lapel. It should be worn on the outside of the buttonhole, and not in it. It is common to secure it in place by using a pearl-headed pin from the back of the lapel. This can be done in such a way that the pin will then be invisible from the front.
Weddings are generally focused on how special the bride looks. Boutonnieres are an inexpensive way to ensure that the groom looks and feels special too.

The wedding vow is the promise the bride and the groom make to each other during the wedding ceremony. A wedding without vows is an unfamiliar sight.
Wedding vows are essential in any marriage ceremony. Now- a-days, modern wedding ceremonies offer the flexibility of allowing you to write and say your own vows.
If you decide to write your own personally meaningful wedding vows, then here are a few things to keep in mind.
1. When you write your own vows, you naturally start to think of all the good reasons why you want to be with the person you are going to marry. Writing your own vows makes the words you say more natural and from the heart.
2. If you don’t know what to say, or you don’t know how to start it, or you just want to add a few additional thoughts, then you can get ideas by reading books on the topic or performing a search on the web for free wedding vows.
You can look at a few of the sample wedding vows online and borrow some ideas or words from each to add to your own unique vows. You can also try taking a particular sample and just changing a few words to suit you. You can also take a wedding vow you really like and use it as is.
3. If you want a touch of artistic expression to your vows, try adding a few lines of poetry from the popular works by Gibran, Keats or Browning.
4. You may want to include some of the lyrics from your favorite song. Couple’s often have a song or tune that symbolizes their love for each other, sort of like the song that is danced to during the reception or after the wedding dinner.
5. While you are thinking about what to say in your vows, you may consider your lifestyles, your personalities and your interests.
7. Share with each other what you have written. You both can bounce back ideas; revive special moments you had with each other. This will help you discover what to include in your vows. Make sure you let the Officiate or person who will be marring you know ahead of time that you are writing your own vows. He or she can inform you about what must be included and may provide a few pointers.
One final thought. Saying your wedding vows during the ceremony can be frightening. You may be scared that you might mess up. Well don’t be. It’s okay to stumble a bit. You will be able to correct yourself. Know that writing your own vows and practicing a bit will help you both gain the confidence you need to do well.

Finally the big day is upon you so let us make it the most memorable day of your life. Your wedding plans has taken up a lot of your time over the months, now let’s go knock them dead with all your efforts. Memories of the perfect occasion need to last for ever? This can be done by capturing every joyous moment of this fabulous day with great wedding photographs. Choosing a good wedding photographer service for your wedding is the way to make it happen.
Give the Photographer plenty of notice in advance with intimate details on your wedding theme if there is one, this will give him some insight on what camera equipment/lens etc is needed for the wedding photo shoot. Careful planning and timing of the ceremony/reception is vital information for the photographer to have under his hat so he/she can capture the special moments of both sections of the day. (Can not be in two places at once) By having a short interval between the end of the service and beginning of the reception will allow time for more snapshots of the bride/groom and wedding guests. A more relaxed environment among the entourage with no time limit on being here or there will produce good photos.
An important issue to be considered when choosing a wedding photographer is that the photographer can produce before your very eyes a complete set of wedding photos that he may have taken at past weddings. This will prove that the photographer is genuine. Do not accept a display of only selected prints of their best snaps from different weddings. The norm is to check out at least 3/4 complete wedding sets of photos. A dedicated professional wedding photographer shows great pride in his work and therefore would conduct his/her way of doing business with you by presenting you with masterpieces.
Cover every corner before making a final decision on the photographer of your choice; scrutinize every little detail as in i.e. do they give an unlimited coverage package for the whole day.
Always be weary of photography companies that contract out work to people who portray they are wedding photographers. You also have to be dubious of salespersons with the gift of the gab who often pose as photographers themselves just to get the custom. To save any heartache deal with photographers who personally shoots weddings for a living this will give you peace of mind, the reason being is the photographer would be grateful for any referrals you may have thus giving you the best photographs of your wedding. Finding a versatile photographer is a good option as he will have had experience on traditional weddings along with photojournalistic style. Before booking the photographer ask questions if you are uncertain to what may or may not come with the package. Also have other questions answered like are the photos coloured or black and white/does he charge extra on top for B/W?
Mention your interest in hand and digital colouring and if they are included in the package, be sure to ask about any surplus charges that may incur. Quality pictures develop when the photograph colours are unconnected thus improving them when printed. If you are not familiar with photography such as what type of camera is to be used at the wedding, does it have a leaf shutter or focal plane then take some one with you like a family member or friend with a little knowledge on photography. Ask to be shown some of the effects that can be expected from the equipment he is going to use at your wedding then you get to choose just exactly what you want.
A word of warning there is always one prankster in the background of a wedding photograph, will it be you. Be prepared and Smile even when your eating.
After hours of research I found this fabulous site and hey what do you know everything you could possibly need is all here to make your wedding day special..Well worth a visit dont just take my word for it http://www.your-wedding-planning-help.com.

Top 10 tips when shopping for a wedding dress!
1. Pick up some bridal magazines or go to the library to browse their bridal magazines and get ideas for what styles you like. Sit down and search wedding websites for bridal wear. This will help you get a feel for what is out there and what you like.
2. Ask your friends, family, and coworkers where the good bridal stores are to go. Book an appointment with a reputable retailer. Make sure you allow yourself an hour to be at the bridal store.
3. Ask your closest friend, bridal party, parent or whom you feel comfortable with and trust to come shopping with you. Make it a fun day and make time for a lunch date.
4. Be upfront with the bridal consultant on the price you want to spend and keep in that range. The bridal consultant I had was excellent and I ended up getting my dress cheaper than what I planned on. This is a good time to show the bridal consultant pictures you have cut out or printed off. She/he can get a feel for your style.
5. Try on a couple of different styles. Be open to suggestion. You may discover that the dress you thought wasn’t very nice on the rack looks superb on you! Ask the bridal consultant what styles suite your body type. But remember, it has to be a wedding dress you feel comfortable, sexy, and beautiful in.
6. Only shop at 2 or 3 bridal stores in one day. It takes a lot of time and energy to try on wedding dresses. Don’t make any decisions that day. You need time to sleep on it.
7. If you have narrowed your search down to 2 or 3 dresses, get the name of the manufacturer or designer and check if another store carries the same bridal dress. I got my wedding dress across the street from one bridal shop for $300 cheaper. It can save you lots of money.
8. Don’t hesitate to try second hand bridal shops. You may find a dress for 50% off for the same dress you have chosen. But watch for tears, beads falling off and snags. It has to be in tip top shape for you!
9. Once you’ve decided on your wedding dress, wait until your final alterations are done to buy all your accessories. You may need a very high heel or a flat heel depending how the alterations worked out.
10. Be sure you have ordered your wedding dress way ahead of your wedding day! You will have a million things to plan for your wedding day! But at least you know you will look radiant in your wedding dress you carefully choose. Find out more about shopping for wedding dresses at www.elegant-wedding-dresses.com

The guy has finally popped the question and the big day is almost here. Everything is in place except for hiring someone to take the wedding photos. You want great wedding pictures, but you don’t have a lot of money. What can you do to save money and still get great wedding photos? If you go too cheap on your wedding photography it will be obvious. Keep in mind that this is the day you have been waiting for your entire life, and you will want to remember it forever. If you follow a few simple ideas you can still get great wedding photos and save money.
The first thing is to get a professional wedding photographer. There is only one chance to get these pictures right. Becky Jenkins wanted to get the best Athens, Georgia wedding photographer she could find, but her uncle offered to do the pictures for free. He had been dabbling in photography and seemed to take good pictures. When she finally got the pictures back they were either too dark or over exposed. Becky was devastated, but there was nothing she could do at that point. You can cut corners in a lot of areas, but if you go cheap on your photos you have to be very careful. You can find professional wedding photographers with packages in every price range - including yours.
A popular trick for getting good candid shots is to place disposable cameras on each table. This is a fun way to get good pictures for cheap, and to get pictures that the wedding photographer would miss. The problem with disposable cameras at weddings is that two or three dozen rolls of film are very expensive to develop. Instead of putting them on the table, maybe just hand them out to select people at the wedding.
Another way to save money is to be selective with what pictures you want. Maybe you are fine with only a few professional pictures being taken at your wedding reception. If you use the disposable cameras as mentioned above you won’t need as many professional photographs and this can save you money. Decide early what is most important to you and make sure the wedding photographer gets only those pictures. Quality is better than quantity.
There are so many ways to save money on your wedding and still throw an event that everyone will remember forever. With a little ingenuity you can save thousands and still have a wedding that looks like a million bucks. Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life and when it comes down to it the only thing that’s important is that you are marrying the person you love.

So why should you get a (professional) photographer for your wedding day?
Worst case scenario - you will be taking your own photos at the wedding. Obviously this really should not happen. You, the host of the event, the main reason people are there, are busy taking snap shots of your wedding party. You will simply have your hands to full to capture the whole essence of your wedding day.
Okay, so that first example may not be a really practical example. A real example would be if you knew someone, someone who isn’t really a professional photographer, but someone who was enthusiastic with a camera, who did it as a hobby?
Well sure, you can assign Cousin Al or Uncle Harry to do the honors and be the official photographer for your engagement. Sure they can pull off an event like yours: 150 guests minimum, reception, the ceremony at the church, some casual shots at the beach or by the bay with the sunset in the background. Perhaps.
Consider this: what kind of photography do they do in their spare time? They may do still-life photography. Or studio photography. Or portrait photography. Or maybe only landscape photography and maybe even shoot the occasional social party. Do you know what I’m getting at?
You have to check and know what they do. Ask if they are up to the challenge. Weddings are a whole different ball game.
Wedding photographers are a whole different breed to your usual hobbyist, glamour, still-life, studio, commercial and landscape photographer. They even speak a different language.
So what is the difference then?
The difference is in the equipment they carry, the planning needed to carry out your mission (your wedding) and their attitude and enthusiasm about the job.
Weddings offer a dynamic environment to which the wedding photographer must conquer and evolve within a short period of time. They have to make the best of different locations and different lighting conditions as well as weather concerns. A good successful wedding photographer can do all these (and more!)
Different locations and lighting conditions - that’s simple, you say, just whip out the camera and press the button.
No it isn’t. Photography is all about lighting. Photography is lighting. Photography comes from a root word that means ‘light painting.’ Wedding photographers must be the masters of light in all different situations at different locations. It’s not simply point and shoot.
And besides getting the perfect shot - the lighting and the composition, your designated photographer will need to be creative and constantly running around making sure every shot you want is taken. I can personally assure you that this is a very high-stress situation for the photographer. Film (or digital cards) can be lost or damaged, photos lost or shots missed due to faulty equipment.
The quality of service and photos…
You should go out and hire a professional photographer for your wedding because you will get the quality you want. Your memory will be preserved with the dignity it deserves. You don’t want to regret having a dingy old photo as a memory when you know you had the opportunity to have it better.
It is the job of the wedding photographer that every finished photo you see of your wedding day to be perfect for your needs.
Do you think you can rely on Cousin Al to deliver?
