What’s hot and what’s not for those tying the knot this year?
The biggest words of the season are ribbons and lace. No, you don’t need to look like an 80’s throwback but somewhere in your plans you must include ribbons and lace to keep up with modern trends.
Designer wedding dresses have been paraded up and down the catwalk absolutely dripping with ribbons. These maybe around the waist, under the bust or trailing from the train. Some quirkier designers have also used ribbons in hair up styles. Of course, unless you are a model, you could look a bit silly on your big day if you go to these lengths.
Wedding dress trends can look dated very quickly and if you want to look back at your pictures without being horrified go for something more subtle. A great way to use ribbons successfully is to incorporate them in your bouquet and other floral decorations.
If you have a large frame or are short, trailing ribbons from your bouquet will add length making you look taller and slimmer. Team colours of your ribbons with those on favour boxes to ensure consistency. You could also choose wedding stationery and place cards that have ribbons on them to add to the idea.
Young bridesmaids can carry off trends better than older ones, so don’t be afraid to give them a hairstyle that includes lots of ribbon. For older bridesmaids, perhaps choose co-ordinating ribbons and tie them to dorothy bags or drawstring pouches.
If you’re a super sexy bride [and blessed with great legs] why not choose bridal shoes with ribbon that you can lace up around your ankles?
And, if you want something trendy that’s for his eyes only, go for a few ribbons on your garter. Guaranteed to impress your groom!!!
Of course, on a more traditional note, lace is the big thing this season too. Beware though, because if you don’t get it right, you could look like you’ve just stepped out of a charity shop. The key - as with any bridal gown - is in the shape.
The material plays a big part, but if you get the shape right, you can carry off any material you want. If you don’t want to go for a completely lace dress, why not keep up with the trends with lace gloves, a lace train or a lace veil?
Team the romantic theme with classical flowers and favours and you’re onto a winner. Again, if you only want to give the suggestion of lace, choose bridesmaid dresses with lace ties. Ensure the men aren’t left out and get them to sport lace handkerchiefs in their top pockets - if you dare.
Don’t be left looking frumpy this year - be the bride with her finger firmly on the pulse and ensure you incorporate ribbons and/or lace somewhere in your plans!

Of course, every detail of any bride’s wedding is important. But, there are some steps that you can go over in advance to make the months ahead as simple as possible. You can use these steps to help outline the planning of your wedding.
1.) Budget - One of the biggest mistakes that brides’ make is not setting a budget. You should set the maximum amount you are able to spend. If you do not have an amount set, you could be very unpleasantly surprised at the end of your planning. You do not want to be spending your honeymoon trying to figure out how you will foot the bill, or worrying about debt.
2.) Date- Think about the date that you would like your wedding to be. At first, you may want to pick a month, and work from there. Be sure to allow yourself enough time to organize the details. You don’t want to stress yourself out pulling everything together right before the wedding; and guests from out of town will want to have plenty of time to make plans. Be careful in choosing a date. Be sure that it is not a busy time of year, such as a holiday or during graduation, etc.
3.) Wedding Party - You will probably want to choose your wedding party early on. You will need to know who is in your wedding party when planning the wedding ensemble, etc. People’s lives get very busy and things come up, so keep them updated on the events to come. You will probably want to pick a maid of honor, man of honor, flower girl, ring bearer, bridesmaids, and groomsmen, as well as any other special attendants.
4.) Location - It is a good idea to think about where you would like your wedding to take place. Would you like to have your wedding in a church, or would you rather have it in another location, such as outside or in a special location? Keep in mind, that if you are not the member of a church, marriage counseling or other special arrangements may be required to be married there. If you are having a reception, look into where you will want have it. Contact each establishment, and see if the date that you want is available. Ask about prices and booking information. Some reception sites will have discounts if you also have them cater the food at your event.
5.) Officiator - The location of your wedding may determine who will be the officiator of your wedding. The preacher or pastor of a certain church will most likely officiate your wedding if it is held there. If you are having your wedding in a different location, you may want to hire an officiator. You can check with your local clerk magistrate to see if he will attend weddings off site. Make sure that you know about all fees required for your officiator. Most will want to be paid before the event.
6.) Theme / Colors - You will probably want to pick a theme or set of colors for your wedding. This will set the tone and décor for the event. For many brides, this is an important decision, as it will set the mood of their wedding. It will also determine many of the little details of the wedding, such as apparel.
7.) Wardrobe - Of course, for many brides, it’s all about the dress. But, you don’t want to forget about what your wedding party, as well as your groom will be wearing. You may want to match the wardrobe with the theme and colors of the wedding. Keep in mind the time of year that your wedding will take place. Think about your shoes and jewelry, and factor these into your budget.
8.) Invitations - You will want to get your invite list together fairly early in your planning. You will need an estimation of the number of guests who might be attending for seating, food, etc. Keep In mind that your budget will rely deeply on the amount of guests at your wedding. Think about what your invitations will be like. Will they include reception cards, maps, or other elements? Also look into the price of your invitations. Decide whether you will order invitations, have someone you know make them, or make them yourself.
9.) Rings - Don’t let your wedding rings get lost in the mix. You will want to figure these into your budget as well. It would be wise to do some shopping around. You will want plenty of time to pick them out and get them sized before your wedding.
10.) Food - Food will be a major element in your budget. You will want to determine the food arrangements for your rehearsal dinner and reception. You will also want to start determining where you will have your cake made, and what style of cake you would like.
11.) Music - Decide if you will want music during your ceremony and reception. There are many different options when it comes to music. You could simply have somebody play recorded music, or you could hire somebody to sing or play music at your event. The latter will, of course, be tighter on your budget. Another option would be to have a DJ or a band at your reception. Make sure you know the details of their fees.
12.) Vows - Many of us get lost in the planning of our wedding, and forget what the big day is all about. Sit down with your partner and talk about your vows, and what they mean to the both of you. You may want to write your own vows, keeping in mind that this special event is no joke, and is an important decision for you both in the rest of your lives.
13.) Extras - After you have thought about all the major steps in the planning of your wedding, you can tie all the little details together. Here are some things you may want to include in the big event: programs, ring bearer’s pillow, cake topper, flower girl basket, flowers, etc. You will also need to check into applying for your marriage license.
I wish you all the best in the planning of this very special event in your lives. Don’t forget why you are getting married in the first place, and have fun designing your wedding. Don’t be afraid to include your partner in the process, and remember that it is their big day, too!

Congratulations on your pending nuptials! You have a ring, a date has been set, and all is right with the world. If you are just starting to plan out your wedding day, you know that there are many steps you must take on the way to organizing your big event. Sure, you could hire the services of a wedding planner to do much of the grinding legwork for you, but likely you will want to be involved in making most of the arrangements yourself with the assistance of your future spouse, of course. So, where should you start? Online, of course! Yes, there are many terrific benefits in planning a wedding online. Let’s explore what they are and how you and your intended can harness the internet to your advantage.Savvy couples have discovered that an important part of successfully planning a wedding online involves doing some research. Click on Google, enter certain search words such as “wedding dj” or “wedding photographer” and numerous results will pop up. By searching within these same results you can further narrow down the list by entering in your city and state. The final Google produced list should be much more manageable to sort through.
Those wedding vendors who really want your business will have attractive and easy to navigate web sites listed in the Google results for your perusal. Planning a wedding online has never been easier as you can review a photographer’s portfolio; listen to sample music clips; watch video clips; tour reception sites; uncover valuable honeymoon information; and much more. Contact those vendors who strike your fancy and ask them for price information, availability, and references. Most will accept an email message from you or have an easy to fill out form on their site whereby you can receive additional information. Planning a wedding online can help you to reduce stress by allowing you to weed out vendors ahead of time: you contact them on your own terms to keep everything under your control.
Some couples use email as an important part of planning a wedding online. By sending out “hold that date” notices to invitees, guests can be notified well in advance of the wedding date and reserve that date on their calendars. Later, you can follow up with the formal invitations and, yes, you can order those online too!
Other benefits of planning a wedding online include:
Gift registries can be set up on the internet or at your local retail store and made available to your guests online no matter where they live. Guests will be able to review your list, select the item they want to give to you, order it online, and ship it directly to your home address.
Do you know which stores in your area sell bridal and gown outfits? If you aren’t sure, there is plenty of information online to help you sort all of that out. Even tuxedo rentals can be ordered online, although an in person fitting is still recommended.
Additional online wedding planning can include finding party favors, buying disposable cameras, shopping for bridal gifts, and locating just about everything else related to the event. Some couples create separate web sites loaded with pictures, driving directions, menus, gift registry information, and more. If that sounds like too much work for you, there are sites that will allow you to set up your information with them. Simply enter “planning a wedding online” in your search parameters to get the best results.
Yes, planning a wedding online can be used to your advantage. The end result is time and money saved and stress avoided. Use the internet today to make planning a wedding online a reality for you and your intended.

The dress was beautiful, you got through the ceremony and reception without a hitch, but just when you thought your wedding was perfect, your pictures come back and you look awful. What can you do to make sure that your photos are as beautiful as the memories you have?
Here are some of the things you should consider:
- Never scrimp on your photographer. Nobody’s going to remember if your bouquets had daisies or rare, exotic orchids. But years from now, your great grand children will be looking at your wedding album. They’re not just souvenirs, they’re heirlooms. Spend on them.
- Avoid complicated hairstyles and veils. You’ll be walking around, too busy talking to guests to check the mirror. You don’t want your veil hanging to the side, or your bangs plastered to your face. Keep it simple and elegant. If you want a dramatic veil for your walk down the aisle, look for a style that allows you to detach part of it, leaving you with something less cumbersome at the reception.
- Buy or make a small clutch bag or pouch that matches your gown. It should carry blotting paper, pressed powder, lipstick and blush. Ask your maid of honor to keep it handy for you.
- Wear waterproof mascara. You will cry a lot. It’s guaranteed. Black mascara will run and leave unflattering raccoon eyes.
- Don’t wear heavy powder eyeshadow. Again, you will cry. You will also sweat from walking around in heavy makeup, a thick gown, and hundreds of guests milling around you. Powder smears and cakes, and ends up under your eyes.
- Don’t wear sheer lipstick. You’ll eat it off. Or if you do, wear a matte or semi-matte base and apply the sheer lipstick as a top coat. Be sure to blot well, or it’ll end up around your mouth or on your teeth.
- Don’t wear heavy shimmery makeup, unless it’s applied by a professional makeup artist. It doesn’t photograph well under less than perfect lighting conditions. If you do, apply only on the eyes.
- Bridal makeup should be soft and romantic, not harsh. Natural pinks are most flattering, and really make you look like a “blushing bride”. Avoid hard-edged contouring and dramatic browns, unless blended well and kept close to the eyeline. Even lipsticks should stick to the pinks and brownish pinks. Bright reds look too harsh worn against a white dress.
- You’ll need good foundation that lasts long but doesn’t cake. The trick is to apply moisturizer first and let it “set”. This will prime your skin. Apply a matte or cream foundation, then concealer. Dust powder foundation with a brush.
- Take good photographs right after the ceremony, when everyone’s make up is still intact. You should have solo shots, couple shots, and group photos with your entourage, friends, family members.
- Ask for a few black and white photographs. They always have a soft, romantic feel.
- If you’ll be having outdoor photographs, light is most flattering in the morning and at dusk. Avoid any outdoor shots from 11am to 2pm; everyone will just be squinting.

You have finally said, “Yes.” This is the start of your life as a couple. And prior to that much-awaited big day, you, both the bride and groom have so many decisions to make and wedding-related tasks to complete.
Preparing for your wedding day need not be stressful. On the other had, it should be fun and memorable. And to do this, start off by putting together a wedding timetable.
A short list of wedding-related tasks as well as a rough estimate of when the activities should be done follows. It presents tips and guidelines to keep you organized and help you think of all the matters that you must take into consideration in the course of planning for your big day. Of course, these are mere suggestions. All activities and schedule are still up to the couple to decide on depending on their priorities.
At the Time of the Engagement - You must tell your parents the happy news as soon as possible that is if they don’t already know. If you were having an engagement party, it would be good to keep your close friends and relatives in the know, too.
- An organizer would be best to have in handy. This will help you keep track of all the appointments, payments and other wedding-related activities that you must attend to. - Have your engagement photo taken. This would be nice to have as a keepsake of this wonderful occasion.
6 to 12 Months In Advance Before the Big Day
- The couple should have already picked and decided on the wedding date. Do the reservation for the venue where the ceremony and reception is to be held. - Set an appointment with the wedding officiant. - Establish a budget for the wedding, and try as much as possible to stick to it. - Prepare a wedding guest list. You wouldn’t want to leave somebody uninvited unintentionally.
- Look around for a photographer, florists, musicians, and a caterer. Obtain estimates for these services.
- Register at the bridal gift registry. - Pick a wedding dress and accessories to go with it. If you are having a seamstress make you one, this is the time to have it arranged. Several fittings may be required for this. - For the bride, select your bridesmaids. Set a date for ordering dresses for them.
4 to 6 Months In Advance Before the Big Day - Have the invitations, stationeries, and thank you notes ordered. - The photographer, florist, musician, and caterer should have already been chosen. Go over details with each of these services to make sure that everything is as agreed upon. - For the groom, select attire. - Honeymoon reservations should be made already at this point. - Confirm the delivery of the bridal gown.
2 Months In Advance Before the Big Day - Plan your rehearsal dinner. - If you are having out-of-town attendants, arrange for their lodging. - Make an appointment with your chosen photographer for the shooting of the bridal portrait.
- Order the wedding cake.
1 Month In Advance Before the Big Day - The couple should decide on a wedding band set. - Mail the invitations. - Check the apparel for the wedding party. - The couple attends showers.
2 Weeks Before the Wedding. - It is time to apply for marriage license and attend to other legal matters, especially for the bride - name and address changes on bank accounts and other official documents. - Plan a wedding hairstyle and make-up with your stylist. - Check with the caterer and the reception venue for last minute changes.
1 Week Before the Wedding - Do your honeymoon packing. - Wrap gifts for the groom and attendants. - Schedule the wedding rehearsal. - Remind the wedding party of the exact time and place for the occasion.
On Wedding Day - Take breakfast! Fainting on the aisle wouldn’t be cool. - Have your hair and make-up done. - Shake off all your wedding details worries and enjoy your day.

Don’t let your wedding day come and go without saying thank you. There isn’t anything your groomsmen wouldn’t do for you. Your best man is proud of his new role as confidant. The ring bearer is at the ready. And they aren’t expecting anything in return. So commemorate these friendships by choosing wedding favors with the same care you took in selecting a ring for your bride. It will mean a lot to them.
Saying thank you for being there; thank you for your support and advice; thanks for all the good times we’ve shared–that’s what a gift can do.
I’ve unwrapped keepsakes over the years that meant a lot to me: some were from family, some were from high school friends; some from college buddies. It makes no difference how I know the groom. What makes the difference is the groom’s thoughtfulness during what most people would agree is the most important event of his life.
When should a groom give his gift? At the rehearsal party. This is the groom’s last gathering with family and friends before the wedding, so it’s the best time for him to commemorate the past while looking forward to the future.
Keepsakes That Will Be Appreciated
Personal and unique gifts work the best. For the ring bearer, something less sophisticated might appeal to his youth. The groomsmen’s gifts can be identical to one another. But the best man should be set apart. For the greatest impact, show that you’ve thought of the best man by giving him something that appeals to his special interest or hobbies.
Wedding favors and gifts with engravings are a nice touch. Be sure to include the date and the occasion on your engravings. And for an added touch of class, find gifts that fit the groomsmen’s personality. Here are some favorites that seem to capture the best of what a gift can do:
Hip Flasks in any variety of stainless steel or leather.
Cherry wood humidors and stainless steel cigar cases.
Swiss Army pocket knives in red or silver and accessorized with lights, money clips, and a multitude of utilities.
Wedding golf gifts for groomsmen and the best man are increasing in popularity. Golf wedding favors and golf gifts and accessories fit the occasion well.
Cuff links in a variety of colors and styles are classical accessories the groomsmen can wear on the wedding day.
Other Considerations for the Groom
On the whole, the engagement and wedding require tireless efforts in planning. It’s important that no one is forgotten. This is true from the moment you start selecting the wedding party to the time you finish the guest list. Including family, friends, and co-workers in the fun will complete the occasion for you.
Aside from the groomsmen, wedding favors can be given to other special guests you wish to honor. At the rehearsal party, the bride and groom may present their parents and grandparents with a gift. But this is going beyond the ordinary and is considered optional.
If extending your gratitude to include parents and special guests is your style, feel free to do so. The rehearsal party is a time to give liberally. In addition, wedding favors for all guests in attendance can spruce up receptions. Distributed at each place setting or handed out in any number of creative ways, the reception is another place to express your appreciation for everyone’s support.
The Groom’s Gratitude Attitude
“Gratitude,” says novelist A. J. Cronin “is something of which none of us can give too much. For on the smiles, the thanks we give, our little gestures of appreciation, our neighbors build up their philosophy of life.” Giving groomsmen gifts that express your gratitude and sharing wedding favors with your wedding party, family, and guests is a noble philosophy; moreover, the gifts you give also reflect the joy between you and your bride-to-be. That’s something to think about.

Have you been searching for the perfect wedding ring? Many people spend hours and hours shopping for the perfect wedding ring only to end up very discouraged. Often they can not find the ring they want or if the can it is out of their price range. The simplest solution to this dilemma is to create your own wedding ring.
Wedding rings are very important to a couple who have taken the step and decided to spend the rest of their lives together. The wedding ring is the outer physical symbol of this agreement or pact that the couple has made to each other. The ring is a symbol for the vows a couple has taken. Since it is the outward symbol of the marriage it is very important to choose a wedding ring carefully and to find exactly what you want. That is why creating your own wedding ring is often the best option. It is easy, can save you a great deal of money and you will have a unique symbol that the two of you share.
This article will list some of the top reasons you should consider getting a custom wedding ring instead of buying a stock ring from a store.
Custom made wedding rings are Unique
That is right by designing your own ring with a professional ring designer you can ensure that your rings are unique. In fact you will be the only two people in the world to have that exact ring and that exact design. What better symbol of your love to show off to the world then having your own unique wedding ring. Believe me you will get compliments on your ring everywhere you go. People are often amazed that you can even make your own rings and love the uniqueness of the designs.
Custom made wedding rings are Personalized
In creating your own wedding ring you can personalize the design to fit your tastes and even contain secret symbols or messages to each other. If you have a favorite style of ring or artistic style, colors or other thing that you would like to include in the design the jeweler will be glad to consult with you and help you incorporate the design into your ring. For example a lot of people really love the deep symbolism of Celtic knot work since this is a knot tied with one piece of rope and it is never ends it is a continuous knot that runs forever. A lot of people really love this symbolism and love wear a customer made unique wedding ring that has these types of symbols in them. It brings a lot of significance to the ring.
Mutual Agreement
In making your own wedding ring you will come to a mutual agreement on the design and it is an experience that you will always share together. When you sit down with the designer you can both share your ideas openly and talk about the significance of the ring for each of you. Then the designer can work with these ideas and your suggestions and create something that will embody all of these things. It is wonderfully to wear a ring that was created from a joint experience you both had and not just some stock designer ring that holds no meaning or no experience or significance behind it.
Price
This is the best part for many people just getting married. By designing your own ring you are usually reducing the cost of the rings. You see most rings are created by some famous wedding ring designer and the price is based on the popularity of the designer. However, the average person has no idea who these famous wedding ring designers are anyway. So even though you spend a great deal of money on a wedding ring by a well known artist chances are most people will have no idea. However, by making your own ring there is no designer label or name behind it and therefore the costs is often cut in half or even more! Not only that chances are the most people will have no idea who the designer is of a certain ring they will definitely notice you have a unique one of a kind ring!
My wife and I decided to get a custom designed engagement and wedding ring set when we were engaged. Not only that we had the designer work with us to incorporate the feeling of the wedding ring into the design of the grooms or men’s ring also. So now they look like a perfect matching pair of rings! Just think we saved over 65% by purchasing this way at the same time as ending up with unique rings. You really can not go wrong in designing your own wedding ring.
